Sustainable Product Design Elective
The Sustainable Product Design elective is aimed at undergraduate students who wish to deepen their understanding of sustainable design with a focus on objects.
The course is designed to help you develop your own design identity and style while exploring technical feasibility, sustainable materials, and the full product life cycle — all within the context of current and future climate challenges.

The first year begins with an immersion into the world of global design: culture, design tools and skills, as well as an understanding of design methodologies, including sketching, graphic composition, computer-aided design (Adobe Suite 2D, Rhino & Keyshot 3D), model-making, and prototyping. Students are also introduced to sustainability principles and the history and culture of design.
Within dedicated design studios led by professional designer instructors and professors, creativity and projects take shape nourished by newly acquired tools and design processes.

In the second year, design projects become more complex, deepening all associated skills. Students then select a design discipline as an elective/minor. The Sustainable Product Design elective (or minor) will deepen their sustainability knowledge, focusing on physical objects and product design. This course aims to develop skills in product design, while helping students to build a unique pathway, enhancing their signature style and design voice.
While exploring discipline in depth, students question technical manufacturability, production processes, sustainable materials and the overall life cycle of products, considering current and future climate issues.

This final year marks a transition with two major individual projects within our design studios—one per semester—supported by an introduction to design user research and social impact. At this stage, students develop a comprehensive and personal sustainable design project, from research and ideation to development, prototyping, and final model creation, culminating in a final presentation before an internal jury.
An international exchange experience with one of our partner institutions is also available (optional) during the third year of study.
